PledgeCents Event: Fit 4 School

PledgeCents is more than simply a site that plays host to causes. We are a movement that is 'For the Youth, By the Youth'. We are growing the passion for education both in our own community and in other communities around the country.

As part of these efforts to support both the classrooms on our site and the communities, from time to time, we host fundraising events. So far we have hosted events in Houston and Dallas, but keep an eye out, and we might be coming to a city near you soon!

Our next event will take place on Saturday, September 6th from 9:00 am-12:00 pm. We are honored to be partnering with our friends at Nutrishop Houston to put on this event at Memorial Park in Houston! Together, we have planned a fun, laidback back to school fitness event, Fit 4 School! Teams of two will compete in three fun workouts throughout the morning. All ability levels are welcome, and we are hoping to see teams of parents and children, friends, significant others, and any other pairing you can think of!

Why, you might be wondering, would a fitness shop be interested in co-hosting an event that focuses on education? Paul Smith, owner of Nutrishop Houston, shared his thoughts with us!

"Nutrishop Houston genuinely cares for the community, be it local or distant," Paul explained, "and we want to give back in any positive way that we can. My parents taught me from a very early age the importance of having a good education, and I just want to help others get that education. With knowledge comes power. Power to change and control your life. Power to help yourself, family, friends etc."

Paul also sees a strong connection between fitness and education. "Having a great education and being smart is amazing, but having all of that and great health and fitness too? That's incredible," Paul shared, "and one thing you don't really get well educated on in school is how to be healthy. I'm not talking about USDA recommendations, but real health. At Nutrishop Houston, we want to educate our customers and clients on how to do this and help them reach their fitness goals as well! We like to be thought if as a RESOURCE, not just a place to get your protein and vitamins. We encourage questions!"

While Nutrishop Houston has hosted several community events and fundraisers since they opened in January 2013, this is the first that focuses on education. Paul assured us, however, that it will certainly not be the last.

This event is limited to 50 teams, and when each team purchases their $25 dollar ticket, they will choose which of four worthy causes their funds will support! 100% of proceeds from this event will go directly into the causes on our site!
